Speed Up The Internet For Xbox Live

If you are playing a game on Xbox Live and begin to notice lag, you most likely have a problem with your Internet connection. Lag is when the game suddenly freezes, skips frames or slows down appreciably. Occasionally, the Xbox Live server itself may be responsible. If this is the case, there is nothing you can do. But if you believe the problem lies with your Internet connection, there are steps you can take to increase the speed of your Xbox Live connection.

Instructions

1. Run the Xbox Internet connection configuration tools. Both the original Xbox and Xbox 360 have this capability. You will find it under the System category on both generations of Xbox consoles. If the configuration utility does not report that there is a problem with your connection, you know the problem is with your network, ISP or the Xbox Live service itself.

2. Contact your Internet service provider (ISP) to make sure you have not exceeded your data limits. Some ISPs will intentionally slow your connection speed once you have hit a certain amount of bandwidth usage.

3. Check if there are other devices that are using the same Internet connection as your Xbox. For example, if a computer is downloading a large file while you are trying to play on Xbox Live, your connection will probably be slow. The more devices that are connected to your network, the slower your connection will be.

4. Switch to a wired connection, if possible. Cordless phones and microwaves can interfere with a wireless connection and cause a game to lag or slow down.

5. Restart your router and cable modem according to the manufacturers' recommendations. A reboot allows your Internet connection to stabilize and may increase your Xbox Live connection speed.

6. Move your wireless router and Xbox console to different locations. Sometimes the construction materials of your house or metal in your furniture can interfere with your wireless connection. Typically, the best location for a wireless router is high off the floor and as close to your Xbox console as possible.
