Hook Up Spdif On An Asus Motherboard

A receiver, SPDIF cable and your Asus motherboard equal a Hi-Fi system.

SPDIF (Sony/Phillips Digital Interconnect Format) is an audio format used to transfer digital audio signals in high-end audio and home theater equipment. SPDIF connections often come with high-end motherboards designed for systems intended to be a media PC.

Connecting your ASUS motherboard-based computer to a stereo system with an SPDIF connection will ensure that your computer produces audio signals every bit as clear and dynamic as other input sources in your home audio system.

Instructions

Making the Connections

1. Locate the SPDIF connection port on the back of the computer. The port usually has a black plastic plug inserted into it and is located above or beside the other audio connection ports on the computer (the blue, green and pink ports).

2. Remove the protective plug from the port by pulling it straight out. Place the plug in a safe place in case you need it again later to cover and protect the sensitive port.

3. Plug one end of the Toslink SPDIF cable (they should both be the same) into the SPDIF port on the ASUS motherboard. Plug the other end of the cable into your stereo receiver.

4. Turn on the stereo receiver and select the input source for the SPDIF cable connected to the computer.

Setting up Windows

5. Click on the "Start" button and then the "Control Panel" link. Once the main "Control Panel" screen appears, click on the "Sound" icon.

6. Click and highlight the "Digital Audio (HDMI)" option in the "Sound" window. Click the "OK" button.

7. Open your audio or media player software and play some music. You should hear the music over the speakers connected to your home audio receiver.
