Specifications Of The 1987 Camaro Irocz

In 1985, Chevy introduced the IROC-Z model to its classic sports and muscle car known as the Camaro, to directly honor the International Race of Champions, according to Concept Carz. It had an improved suspension in comparison to other Camaro models, a decal package and a 305 cubic-inch L98 Tuned Port Injection System that was borrowed from the Corvette. In the 1987 models, the L98 small-block engine was introduced, changing the car's specifications slightly.

Dimension Specifications

The 1987 Camaro IROC-Z has a length of 188 inches, a width of 72.8 inches and a height of 50 inches. It has a total wheelbase of 101 inches and a curb weight of 3,362 lbs.

Engine Specifications

As the 1987 Camaro IROC-Z is made specifically for the International Race of Champions, it has a more souped-up engine then other Camaros released in the 1987 model year. It has a 5.7-liter, 5,733 cc, V-8 engine that has overhead valves with two valves per cylinder and 16 valves total. The IROC-Z has 223 horsepower at 4,000 rpm, 318 foot-pounds of torque at 3,200 rpm and a compression ratio of 9-to-1. It has 4 inches of bore and 3.48 inches of stroke with a bore to stroke ratio of 1.15. This gives the IROC-Z the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.

Chassis Specifications

The 1987 Camaro IROC-Z also had an upgraded chassis. It has a front longitudinal engine and rear wheel drive, which allowed the muscle car to have better handling when roaring down the road. It also used a five-speed manual transmission, which allowed the driver to have more control over how the car accelerated, slowed and handled.
