The Specifications Of An Asus G1s

Asus released the G1S laptop computer in 2006. The computer was marketed toward video gaming enthusiasts. The G1S came preinstalled with the Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. It featured a two-year limited worldwide warranty. The G1S included a 4-in-1 memory card reader for transferring photos and other data. The Asus G1S has since been discontinued.


Identification


The Asus G1S measured 13.9 inches wide, 11.2 inches deep and 1.5 inches thick. With a standard configuration, it weighed 6.8 lbs. It was housed in a combination glossy carbon fiber and matte black plastic casing with lime green accents. On-board power came via an 8-cell Lithium-ion battery which, according to the review for "Laptop Magazine," suffered from poor battery life. External power was provided by a 90-watt AC adapter. The G1S was shipped with a Logitech optical gaming mouse and a Targus backpack for transporting the laptop.


Processor, Memory and Storage


The G1S was built on Intel's Santa Rosa Mobile 965 PM Express chipset. Powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor, it featured a clock speed of 2.2 GHz, an 800 MHz front-side bus and 4 MB of L2 cache. The G1S came standard with 2 gigabytes of 667 MHz DDR2 RAM, which was upgradeable to a maximum of 4 GB. For storage, the Asus G1S came standard with a 160 GB hard drive that ran at 5,400 rpm. A 7,200 pm Seagate hard drive was offered as an optional upgrade.


Display and Multimedia


The Asus G1S featured a 15.4-inch WSXGA ColorShine TFT display screen with a native resolution of 1680 by 1050 pixels. Graphics on the laptop were handled by the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics card. The GeForce 8600M GT featured 256 MB of on-board memory and HDCP support. Audio was handled by an integrated Intel audio controller. The G1S also featured a built-in 1.3-megapixel Web camera located above the display screen. An 8X SuperMulti DVD writable LightScribe drive was included as well.


Connectivity and Expansion


Connecting to the Internet or a local area network on the G1S was possible via a built-in Ethernet port, a 56K dial-up modem or the system's 802.11a/g/n wireless LAN card. The laptop had built-in Bluetooth 2.0 functionality as well. Additional available ports found on the Asus G1S included HDMI, IEEE 1394 (Firewire), four USB 2.0 ports, DVI, NIC, S-Video, eSATA, 3.5 mm headphone, line-in and a microphone input jack.
