Upgrade An Ati Chipset

An ATI chipset is an on-board video card that is built into a motherboard. These are often used with motherboards that come in pre-built computers like you would find in retail stores. As software develops and changes, new drivers may be released for your ATI chipset that provides more stability and wider software support. You will need to download and install these drivers to upgrade your chipset.


Instructions


Determine Your ATI Chipset Model


1. Click the "Start" button from your desktop to launch the start menu.


2. Right-click "Computer" and choose "Properties."


3. Open the "Hardware" tab and click "Device Manger" if you are using Windows XP. Windows Vista and Windows 7 users should click "Device Manager" from the "Properties" window.


4. Click the plus sign next to "Display Adapters" to extend the category. You should see your ATI chipset model information under this header.


5. Record the chipset model information for future use.


Download and Install ATI Chipset Drivers


6. Go to the AMD Graphics Drivers & Software website.


7. Choose "Integrated Motherboard Graphics" from the first drop-down menu.


8. Choose your ATI chipset model information from drop-down menus number two and three.


9. Select your operating system from drop-down menu four and click "Display Results."


10. Click the "Download" button to download the newest version of your chipset drivers.


11. Double-click the downloaded file to automatically launch an installation wizard.


12. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the new drivers for your ATI chipset. The installation may prompt you to restart your computer to allow changes to take place.
