What Are The Specs On The Hp Pavilion P6230y Ny549aar Amd Phenom Ii

The HP Pavilion P6230Y (product # NY549AA) was released in August 2009. When it hit the market it was a high-end computer with several features not offered by many base model desktop computers including 802.11n wireless networking. Though it is now out of production, several outlets still offer refurbished units and the P6230Y is capable of running the latest version of the Windows 7 operating system.


Processor, Chipset and Motherboard


The HP Pavilion P6230Y ships with an AMD Phenom II X4 810 quad core processor operating at 2.6GHz. It has a front side bus speed of 4000MHz. The motherboard is a Foxconn H-RS880-uATX with an AMD 785G chipset. The processor socket is the AM3 and will accommodate the AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core, AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core, AMD II Athlon X4 6xx/6xxe, AMD II Athlon X3 4xx/4xxe and AMD II Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe processors.


RAM


The H-RS880 motherboard has four 240-pin DDR3 sockets that can each handle up to 4GB of PC3-10600 1333MHz RAM. The base computer ships with 8GB installed. When using a 32bit operating system only 4GB or RAM are used, and on a 64bit system the computer can utilize the maximum of 16GB of RAM. The RAM modules must be non-ECC only, and unbuffered.


Drives


The Pavilion P6230Y comes with a 750GB SATA hard drive operating at 720rpm with a 2GB/sec transfer rate. The motherboard can support five additional SATA devices. The optical drive is a SuperMulti DVD Burner with LightScribe Technology with a maximum DVD write speed of 16x and maximum CD write speed of 40x. The drive can accommodate dual layer CDs and DVDs. In addition to the hard and optical drive, there are four additional SATA connectors on the motherboard. There is also a 15-in-1 multimedia card reader that can handle most forms of removable media including memory stick, SD and xD.


Ports and Connectors


The rear panel of the computer has two USB 1.1 ports for a mouse and keyboard, an S/PDIF optical audio port, a VGA connector, a 1394a (FireWire) port, an RJ-45 (LAN) jack, audio center speaker/sub-woofer out, audio rear speaker out, audio line in, audio microphone in, audio front speaker line out, audio side speaker out, four USB 2.0 ports and a DVI-D digital video out connector. The front panel has two USB 2.0 ports, a headphone out jack and a microphone in jack.


Networking and Video


To connect to the Internet and other computers, the Pavilion P6230Y has a Gigabit 10-Base-GT LAN module integrated into the motherboard that uses the Realtek 8111C technology and offers transfer speeds up to 1000Mb/sec. There is also an 802.11 wireless a/b/g/n PCI-Express card with data transfer rates up to 54Mb/sec. It also includes two connectors for either internal or external Wi-Fi antennas. For video processing, the computer uses the integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200 video card with 256MB of dedicated video memory. It supports dual monitors using the VGA and DVI connectors together.
