Difference Between Intel Core Duo & Intel Pentium Dual Core Processors

The Intel Core and Pentium are two families of PC central processing units, or CPUs, from Intel Corporation, with the former representing the upper-level chips and the latter designed for the midrange market. Both have dual-core (two-processor unit) versions--the Intel Core ones are dubbed "2 Duo"--with specifications that denote their status.

Clock Speed

The clock, or processing, speed range of Intel Core 2 Duo processors is at 1.8 gigahertz to 3.33 GHz. That of the Intel Pentium dual-core processors is at 1.6 GHz to 3.2 GHz.

Front Bus Speed

The range of the Intel Core 2 Duo processors' front bus speed--which is the data transfer rate per second between the CPU and the northbridge of the computer's motherboard--is 800 megahertz to 1,333 MHz. That of the Intel Pentium dual-core microprocessors is at 800 MHz to 1,066 MHz.

Intel Trusted Execution Technology

Additionally, the Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs have Intel's Trusted Execution Technology. It is a hardware extension for protection of the computer against software-based attacks.
