Dell Precision 380 Motherboard Specs

Released in 2005, the Dell Precision 380 is one of the desktop PCs from technology computer Dell Inc.'s lineup of workstations aimed at architecture, computer-aided design and computer graphics professionals. The motherboard that Dell Installed on the Precision 380 goes by the part number of CJ774. In some instances, however, it's named the XH407, either in place of or with the former.

Processor Support

Dell designed the CJ774 motherboard specifically for accepting microprocessors from semiconductor company Intel Corp. These consist of single-cores or dual-cores of the then-flagship Intel Pentium brand with a Level 2 cache -- secondary memory bank -- of up to 2MB and a data transmission speed of at least 800 MHz. Some processors fitted on the CJ774 have Intel's Hyper-Threading Technology, which enables the computer chip to be a greater multi-tasker; and all support 64-bit computing.

Memory Support

The Dell Precision 380 motherboard provides four dual inline memory module slots for installing the computer's system memory, adhering to DDR2 SDRAM architecture. The minimum amount of RAM it can handle is 512MB, while maximum capacity is set at 8GB. Dell lists the memory speed support of the CJ774 at 533 MHz or 667 MHz.

Chipst, Audio/Video Support

Each Dell CJ774 has an Intel 955X Express chipset, which supports a data bus width of 64 bits and address bus width of 32 bits. It also accommodates a clock rate of 800 MHz or 1,600 MHz, network data transfer of up to 1,000Mbps and eight channels for direct RAM access. Integrated onto the motherboard is an Intel High-Definition audio driver with 24-bit sound, while the Precision 380's video controller is either soldered on or inserted into one of its five Peripheral Component Interconnect expansion slots.

External Interfaces

The Dell Precision 380 motherboard offers three of the desktop PC's five audio jacks. Located in the rear, they consist of a line-in, line-out/headphone and microphone jack. It also supports the computer's 9-pin serial and 25-pin parallel connectors, two PS/2 ports for the mouse and keyboard, IEEE 1394a-compliant connector, RJ-45 jack for Ethernet connection, VGA connector for the monitor display, and two USB 2.0 ports.
