The NVIDIA GeForce 9600 series is a line of computer graphics cards that are considered mid-market cards as of August 2010. GeForce 9600 series cards will be able to run most PC games as of August 2010 on medium to high graphics settings. GeForce 9600 cards connect to the motherboard using a PCI Express port. Before purchasing a PCI Express video card, consult your computer manual to make sure your PC supports PCI Express.
Instructions
1. Turn off your PC and unplug all the cords.
2. Open the PC's case. Use a screwdriver to take the screws out of right side of the back of the case and slide the side panel away from the case.
3. Locate the PCI Express slot. The slot will normally be located along the back of the case above the other expansion slots (PCI slots). The PCI Express slot will be longer than then normal PCI slots. Compare the gold tipped connectors on your GeForce 9600 card to the slot; if the connectors can fit into the slot, it is the correct slot.
4. Take out the slot cover. A metal slot cover separates the slot from the outside of your computer. Remove a single screw just inside the case cover and set the slot cover aside.
5. Align the graphics card's gold connectors with the PCI Express slot, then push the card into the slot with firm, even pressure. The video ports on the back of the card should be accessible from the back of the case after the card is in place.
6. Connect the supplementary 6-pin power connector from your power supply to the power plug on the graphics card. The power supply will look like a metal box with a bundle of cables coming out in the upper back corner of the case. Powerful graphics cards like the GeForce 9600 require additional power.
7. Close the computer's case and plug in the cables.
8. Turn on the PC, insert the driver CD that came with the card, then run the driver setup file on the CD. The driver setup wizard will guide you through basic driver installation. Restart your computer when drivers are installed.
