Emachines T2245 Motherboard Problems

A motherboard is the central printed circuit board for a computer.

The eMachines T2245 is an older model desktop computer manufactured by eMachines. Symptoms of motherboard problems are various and can include a machine that locks up, refuses to shut down or fails to recognize new hardware.

CMOS Clearing

The basic input/output system (BIOS) application, which is stored on the motherboard, configures your computer at start up. The complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) is battery-backed memory that stores hardware configuration data for the BIOS. Sometimes, clearing the CMOS can fix motherboard problems. Unplug your eMachine, then touch the case to discharge static. Next, remove the side panel. Take out the coin-size battery on the motherboard and wait five minutes before replacing it and putting the machine back together. Turn on the computer and press F2 to enter BIOS setup. Enter time and date and defaults, save changes and exit.

Battery Replacement/Driver Updates

If errors persist and your computer shows the incorrect time and date, try replacing the battery. They usually last about five years. In addition, try updating the motherboard drivers.

Motherboard Replacement

If all else fails, replace the motherboard with a compatible off-the-shelf unit. Some experts advise replacing the power supply at the same time. After installation, run BIOS setup so it recognizes the new hardware.
