Installing the XFX GeForce 8600
The XFX GeForce 8600 is a high-end video card developed by the Nividia Corp. It features anywhere from 256 up to 1024 megabytes of video RAM capable of processing high-end video games and movies. The GeForce 8600 also has DirectX 10 support and many of the key Nvidia features such as SLI support, PhysX technology and CUDA technology. Connecting and Installing your GeForce 8600 requires Windows XP or higher, 512MB of system memory and a minimum of 300 watts or greater power supply.
Instructions
1. Turn off your computer and remove all power cables from the outlets. Remove any additional cables from your computer that may get in the way of the installation, such as USB or speaker cables. Remove any monitor cables attached to your computer if you have another PCI or AGP video card currently installed. Remove the side panel from your computer by either unscrewing it or using release levers.
2. Locate your computer's AGP slot. The AGP slot should look like a dark gray clip coming out of the motherboard. It is generally located next to the other PCI slots, which may or may not have cards installed in them. Before touching any of the internal components, make sure to ground yourself electrically by touching something metal or using an anti-static wristband, found at most electronics stores. If you are replacing an old video card with your new XFX GeForce 8600, unscrew the mounting brace and gently slide the old video card out.
3. Insert the XFX GeForce 8600 into your AGP slot. The card should fit in without any excessive force; make sure the mounting bracket lines up properly with the back of the computer case. Once the XFX GeForce 8600 is in place, screw in the mounting plate.
4. Reconnect the computer side panel. Connect any cables disconnected during the installation. Connect your monitor cable to the back of your new XFX GeForce 8600 video card.
5. Turn on the computer and allow the operating system to load. Once the operating system has loaded, you will need to install the XFX GeForce 8600 drivers. Insert the driver CD into the CD-ROM drive and allow the installation wizard to load. Follow all the steps in the installation wizard until completion. After you install the drivers, you may need to reboot your computer to finalize the installation.
