Find A Gateway Motherboard Number

Find a Gateway Motherboard Number

To upgrade the hardware on your Gateway laptop or desktop computer, you must know the motherboard's make and model. If you attempt to install new hardware on a computer without verifying that it's compatible with the motherboard, your new hardware may not work. To find out what motherboard is installed on your PC, you can either use Gateway's website to search your computer or look up the serial number assigned to it.

Instructions

Use Your Serial Number

1. Check your computer, or look at your Gateway PC's original packaging, to find out your serial number.

2. Go to Gateway's website. Move your mouse over "Support," then click "My Support."

3. Enter your serial number in the "My Product Info" section, then click "Submit." Click the "My Support Documents" link.

4. Scroll through the list of hardware and software specifications until you find the section titled "Motherboards." Your motherboard's model and part number should be displayed.

Use Gateway's Add-on

5. Go to the Gateway website. Slide your mouse over the "Support" tab, then click "My Support."

6. Click "My Current Configuration," located under "My Quick Links." When the ActiveX utility appears, click "Yes" to allow Gateway to install the add-on. Gateway will analyze your PC.

7. Review the information Gateway displays on the page after it has searched your computer. It should provide your motherboard's make and model.
