D945gclf2 Recovery In The Bios

The Basic Input Ouput System chip on an Intel D945GCLF2 motherboard stores all of the important hardware settings for a personal computer. Updating the BIOS on the D945GCLF2 can help correct hardware compatibility issues and increase performance levels when installing new hardware products in the system. On occasion, though, the BIOS update process may fail due to a power surge or other error. If a BIOS update fails, you must use the BIOS recovery procedure to return the ROM chip to its default state. According to Intel, the recovery process "is intended to be performed by a trained technician." Nevertheless, you recover the BIOS yourself if you have some basic hardware knowledge and pay close attention to detail.

Instructions

1. Navigate to the Intel Support page for the D945GCLF2 motherboard (see Resources). Download the most recent BIOS file and save it to a folder on the computer.

2. Browse to the folder where you saved the BIOS update file for the motherboard. Copy the file to a USB flash drive or formatted floppy disk. Alternatively, burn the BIOS file to a CD.

3. Unplug the power cord from the computer with the D945GCLF2 motherboard. Disconnect all other cables attached to the computer. Place the computer on a flat work surface.

4. Loosen and remove the screws that secure the case panel cover. Remove the panel cover and set it aside.

5. Slide the anti-static wrist strap on your arm. Clip the other end of the strap to a metal surface inside the computer case.

6. Locate the yellow plastic jumper cover on the D945GCLF2 motherboard. Remove the jumper cover from pins 1 and 2. Place the jumper cover on pins 2 and 3 of the pin-set.

7. Connect the USB flash drive to the computer or insert the CD or floppy disc into the appropriate drive.

8. Connect the power cord, keyboard and monitor to the computer. Power on the computer. The computer will boot to the BIOS recovery console. Wait two to five minutes for the update to finish. Turn off the computer when prompted to do so, if it does not shut off automatically.

9. Unplug the power cord and other cables. Place the yellow jumper cover back on pins 1 and 2. Replace the panel case cover and secure it with the retaining screws.

10. Move the computer back to its original location. Connect all cables and restart the computer.
