Cpu On A Computer

Upgrade the CPU to keep your computer up-to-date.

Many computer gamers and enthusiasts agree that you need to keep your hardware up-to-date for your computer to run at its best. Upgrading the hardware is often cheaper than buying a new computer system, and adding a different CPU, also known as a processor, to your computer will increase the speed of many of your applications. Check your computer's motherboard manual before updating the processor to see which ones your motherboard will support.

Instructions

1. Remove your computer case's shell. Many computer case shells require you to remove six computer screws on the back outside edges of your computer case shell.

2. Remove the heat sink that is located on top of your processor. Many heat sinks require you to undo latches that keep the heat sink attached to the motherboard. Unplug the heat sink's cable from the motherboard after unlatching the latches connecting the heat sink to the processor.

3. Lift the lever on the side of the processor up. This will cause the processor to become detached from the CPU socket. Grab the processor from the sides and remove it from the CPU socket.

4. Place your new processor into the processor socket in the motherboard with the dot or arrow facing the front of the CPU socket. Move the lever on the side of the processor socket down to attach the processor to the CPU socket.

5. Place one milliliter of thermal transfer compound grease on your processor. This will improve your heat sink's ability to keep your processor cool.

6. Reattach your processor's heat sink to the processor and plug the heat sink's power cable back into the motherboard. Reattach your computer's case shell.
