Ga7n400 Gigabyte Motherboard Specifications

A motherboard is the link between the components in a computer.

The motherboard in a computer is the foundation on which the computer is built. When devices and components are plugged into it, they are able to communicate with each other through electronic circuits. The Ga-7N400 Gigabyte motherboard has a 400MHz front side bus to support AMD Athlon XP processors on the NVIDIA chipset.

Processor

The 7N400 features the Socket A form for the processor. It supports the AMD Athlon, Athlon XP and Duron form processors.

Chipset

The chipset on the 7N400 is the NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra. It includes an ATA RAID controller for the hard drive. The Realtek 8110S Gigabit LAN provides a connection to a high speed Ethernet connection. The motherboard also has integrated audio through the Realtek ALC650/655 AC'97 codec.

Input and Output Connectors

Various connectors are provided on the board to connect the internal computer components. The USB 2.0 supports two different ports and the two IEEE 1394 connectors support three individual ports. Two SATA devices can be plugged into the board, such as hard drives and optical drives. The board supports four IDE devices and three cooling fans.

Expansion

Expansion ports on the motherboard allow additional cards to be plugged in to contribute to the capabailities of the PC that are not provided onboard. The AGP slot supports a 1.5v display card and five PCI slots allow connection of TV tuner cards or dedicated sound cards.
