Compare Radeon Video Cards

Radeon graphics cards vary on performance depending on specs.

Deciding which graphics card to buy is an important decision that is solely reliant on the needs of the user. Video games require much different video processing than text-based applications, for instance. Figuring out which video card is better is a matter of knowing what to compare. The most important factors with Radeon graphics cards are the amount of RAM available and the type of RAM used.

Instructions

1. Compare the amount of RAM between the various Radeon graphics cards and record the data in a Word or Notepad document.

2. Analyze the specific type of RAM that is used in each Radeon card. As of summer 2010, GDDR5 is the fastest type available. It would be more desirable for someone seeking video game or video design performance to get a Radeon card with less RAM, but with higher-quality memory. For example, a 512 MB video card with GDDR5 RAM would yield better performance for hardcore enthusiasts than a card with 1024 MB and GDDR3 RAM.

3. Take note of the installation port needed for each of the Radeon cards to cross-reference compatibility with your motherboard. The port types are AGP, PCI, PCI-Express and CrossFireX.

4. Install the video card that has the best RAM and is compatible with your motherboard.
