Apply Thermal Paste To Quad Core

Thermal paste conducts heat rapidly from the CPU to the cooling unit.

Thermal paste prevents heat from building up in areas of the CPU core that do not make full seamless contact with the faceplate on the bottom of the cooling fan that helps dissipate and channel heat. Small fluctuations on the surface do not make full contact possible between the two brushed metal surfaces. The thermal paste consists of a highly thermo-conductive substance that transfers heat rapidly to give the processor a bit of room to work. Quad core processors perform some of the heaviest work and need a very highly conductive medium to immediately move heat away from the CPU surface.

Instructions

1. Lift the motherboard processor lever on the side or bottom of the socket near the top and insert the quad core processor if you haven't done this already.

2. Align the small golden arrow below the processor to the arrow on the side of the socket. Lower the processor lever again once you settle the processor inside.

3. Take a syringe of thermal paste and apply a small bead of the paste in the center of the CPU core. The bead must not exceed three millimeters in circumference for a quad core processor.

4. Spread the bead of thermal paste around so it covers the entire CPU core surface that must touch the cooling fan's metal plate. You have now prepared the CPU for fan installation by applying the thermal paste.
