Dell Power Edge 2850 Specs

Servers are the backbone of a network.

The Dell Power Edge 2850 is a server, designed to function as the backbone of a network. It stores files, creates backups, allows quick access to shared information and offers appropriate levels of security for private information. It provides plenty of space for file storage, fast processing with the Xeon processors and adequate memory to allow multitasking.

Processor

The Dell Power Edge 2850 can support two individual processors. Single as well as dual-core processors are supported. The Intel Xeon series of CPUs is designed to fit perfectly with the 2850. Single-cores up to 3.8 GHz are supported, while dual-core processors can be speeds up to 2.8 GHz.

Memory

Up to 12 GB of DDR-2 400 SDRAM is supported in the 2850, or up to 16 GB if dual rank 4 GB DIM memory sticks are used.

Storage

Six drive bays allow expansion with multiple hard drives. The Power Edge 2850 can support 36, 73, 146 and 300 GB hard drives running at 10,000 rpm as well as 18, 36, 73 and 146 GB drives operating at 15,000 rpm. An additional tape drive is also supported.

Expansion

The Power Edge 2850 comes equipped with three PCI-Express slots, which can be operated as three slots in 64-bit configuration or two slots in a 4- or 8-lane specification while the other operates in 64-bit. The video on this server is not the highest quality because the purpose of a server is to hold and backup data without attaching a great deal of importance to the graphic display.
