Overclock The Phenom Ii 940 On An Asus Motherboard

The AMD Phenom ll 940 CPU is a quad-core processor running at a stock speed of 3.0GHz. It has a CPU multiplier of 15 running on a front side bus speed of 200 MHz. AMD CPUs are popular because they overclock very well. The 940 is a "Black Edition" CPU, which means that it has an "unlocked" multiplier. Unlocked CPUs are very easy to overclock and maintain system stability because you just have to increase the multiplier in the BIOS.

Instructions

1. Turn on the computer. When the ASUS splash screen appears -- this is the first screen you will see -- press "Delete" to enter the BIOS.

2. Use the arrow keys to navigate over to "Advanced." Press "Enter." "Jumperless Settings" will be highlighted; press "Enter."

3. Use the arrow keys to navigate down to "Processor Frequency Multiplier." Press the "+" key to increase the multiplier in .5 increments. For instance, the stock multiplier is "15;" the next multiplier shown will be "15.5" for a speed of 3100 MHz, or 3.1GHz. When you have set your desired speed, press "Esc."

4. Use the arrow keys to navigate over to "Exit." Press "Enter." "Exit and save changes" will be highlighted. Press "Enter." The computer will reboot at the new speed.
