The capacity of the motherboard depends on the model you have installed in your Dell computer. The capacity refers to compatible processor, supported RAM technology, and the number of AGP, PCI or PCI-EX slots available for internal computer cards.
Compatible Processor
Certain motherboards require specific kinds of processors. An incompatible processor will not work with your Dell motherboard. Refer to the motherboard manual of your Dell computer for the specific type of processors that are compatible with it. For instance, your Dell motherboard may be able to support a 32-bit processor but not a 62-bit processor of the same brand.
RAM
Your Dell motherboard has a specific supported RAM technology. Different kinds of RAM include DDR1, DDr2 and DDR3.
Motherboard Expansion Slots
Expansions slots are those "banks" in your motherboard where internal expansion cards are installed. Internal cards may include graphic/video cards, LAN/wireless LAN cards and internal modem. Your Dell motherboard may support AGP, PCI or PCI-EX cards.
