Accidents happen when it comes to computer equipment--food spills and other incidents are bound to occur over the useful life of the computer. One common problem with monitors is the appearance of pen ink on the screen, often occurring after someone uses an uncapped pen to point at something on the display. Cleaning a computer monitor is possible, but there are some rules to follow to avoid damaging the sensitive screen.
Instructions
1. Purchase a pack of microfiber cloths from an online source or from a local cleaning-supply store. Microfiber is an extremely soft material that will not interfere with the coating (either scratch-proof or glare-proof) already present on the screen. Use a new cloth with each cleaning effort to avoid accidentally reusing a cloth that has a small rock or other item on it that could scratch or damage the screen.
2. Turn monitor off.
3. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol directly to the microfiber cloth. Never apply or spray liquids directly on the monitor, as this could cause damage to the machine. Remember the motto that less is more, so use only a small amount of rubbing alcohol, increasing it as needed to accomplish the task.
4. Rub the screen lightly with the alcohol-soaked microfiber cloth. Use light pressure to avoid damaging the screen, only applying sufficient force to remove the ink stain. Be patient, as some stains might take minutes of continual rubbing to completely remove.
