Asus A7v8xmx Specs

The Asus A7V8X-MX motherboard supports AMD processors equipped with a Socket A interface. It features a VIA KM400 chipset, integrated six-channel sound card and six USB ports. This motherboard supports up to 2 GB of system memory and four IDE drives. The A7V8X-MX comes with several Asus BIOS utilities and Trend Micro PC-cillin antivirus.


Features


Asus equips the A7V8X-MX motherboard with an Award BIOS and a VIA T8235 chipset that supports front-side bus speeds of 200, 266 and 333 MHz. This motherboard works with any processor that uses AMD's Socket A interface, including Athlon, Athlon XP, Duron and Sempron processors. The fastest processor it supports is the Athlon XP 3000+. The A7V8X-MX also features an integrated VIA UniChrome graphics card for displaying 2D and 3D graphics and an ADI 6-channel sound card for outputting 5.1 audio. It includes a built-in 10/100 Ethernet card for network and Internet connections. The integrated hardware monitor shuts down the computer if the processor overheats.


Interfaces


Asus's A7V8X-MX motherboard includes six USB 2.0 ports for connecting printers, scanner and other peripherals. It also comes standard with a parallel port, serial ports and two PS/2 ports for use with older external devices. The motherboard's Ultra-DMA controller supports up to four 66, 100 or 133 MHz IDE hard drives. You can connect the integrated VIA graphics card to an analog monitor or high-definition television equipped with VGA interface. The A7V8X-MX includes a mini-plug audio connection for use with analog speakers and an S/PDIF optical jack for digital receivers.


Upgradability


The Asus A7V8X-MX motherboard provides two DIMM slots for installing up to 2 GB of double data rate, or DDR, memory. Three PCI slots let you install various add-on cards, including wireless network cards, sound cards and serial-ATA controllers. This motherboard also includes one 4X/8X AGP slot for upgrading to a more powerful graphics card.


Considerations


Asus designed the A7V8X-MX around the microATX form factor. The motherboard measures 9.6 by 9.6 inches. It is compatible with any microATX system case. You can plug it into any power supply equipped with a 20-pin ATX connector. Asus includes a floppy drive cable, IDE cable, I/O shield and user's manual with this motherboard. The A7V8X-MX also comes with LiveUpdate Utility, EZ Flash, CrashFree BIOS utilities, a set of tools Asus provides for updating and troubleshooting the BIOS. Additionally, the A7V8X-MX ships with a one-year license for Trend Micro's PC-cillin 2002 antivirus.
