A Video Card To A Computer Where The Onboard Video Does Not Work

Replace your broken onboard video port.

If the onboard video on your computer fails, you will have no way of viewing visual output from your computer until you install a video card on your machine. Installing a new video card in your computer is easy. Once the card is installed in your machine, you can connect your monitor to the card for immediate use, which allows you to perform the installation of graphics drivers without having to use the onboard video port.

Instructions

1. Shut down your computer and unplug all peripherals from the machine, including your monitor. Disconnect your computer from its power supply and let the machine cool for 30 minutes before working on its internal components.

2. Unscrew the screw securing the backing plate to the rear of the computer with the screwdriver. Remove the backing plate and set the screw aside. You will need the screw to secure the graphics card to the computer once it is installed. If your graphics card is large, you may need to remove two backing plates from the case.

3. Insert the graphics card into the graphics slot. Push down on the card until it is firmly in place. Secure the graphics card to the back of the computer case with the screw(s) removed earlier.

4. Close the computer case. Plug your computer in and attach its peripherals. Plug the monitor into the video output port on the graphics card.

5. Start your computer. The computer will detect and use the graphics card. Once the computer has finished booting, install the graphics card drivers included with the graphics card.
