Overclock your ASUS Rampage II Extreme for a free enhanced performance boost.
Overclocking is a procedure that accelerates default clock frequencies for a performance boost. Overclocking has become a popular method for enhancing the performance of devices, such as motherboards and graphics cards, without spending money on costly upgrades. To overclock your ASUS Rampage II Extreme motherboard, you will need patience and a thorough knowledge of your computer's internal components. Overclocking could be dangerous and result in irreversible heat damage if you don't know what you're doing. Only proceed to overclock your ASUS motherboard if you feel comfortable and have previous experience with overclocking.
Instructions
1. Restart your computer and press the "Delete" button during start-up to access BIOS, an advanced configuration menu.
2. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, navigate to "Extreme Tweaker" at the top of the BIOS menu screen and press "Enter."
3. Navigate to "Ai Overclock Tuner," press "Enter" and change it from "Auto" to "Manual." Navigate to "CPU Ratio Setting," press "Enter" and increase the value by an increment of one (for example, from 15 to 16). Do not exceed the maximum of 21. Alternatively, navigate to "CPU Level Up," press "Enter" and adjust the setting from "Auto" to the next available level up. Leave all other settings at "Auto" for an simple automatic overclock. Press "F10" to save and exit; your computer will restart and implement your custom configurations.
4. Download and install Prime 95, a free overclock testing tool. Double-click on Prime 95 to run the program. Click the "Options" tab at the top of the Prime 95 window and select "Torture Test" from the drop-down menu. Click on "Start" to initiate the test and allow it to run for at least 30 minutes. If no errors pop up and your computer doesn't freeze, restart your computer, enter BIOS and increase the "CPU Ratio Setting" by one more (from 16 to17) or select the next available level in "CPU Level Up."
5. Save and exit BIOS and run the "Torture Test" again. If your computer doesn't freeze and errors don't pop up, make another adjustment, as in Step 4. Repeat this process until you acquire the optimum performance boost for your computer while retaining stability. If you overclock too much and your computer does freeze during the "Torture Test," restart your computer, enter BIOS and adjust the values to the last stable level.
