Bios Update Tools

BIOS update tools help you update and manage your computer's BIOS.

The basic input/output system (BIOS) is a technology that starts and loads your operating system. BIOS is also responsible for starting up and recognizing the different devices on your computer system, including your hard drive, CD-ROM drive, keyboard and video card. BIOS update tools ensure that you have the latest versions of the BIOS program for your computer system.

BIOS Agent

This tool runs a scan on your computer and captures data about your computer's BIOS, including original equipment manufacturer (OEM) data, BIOS type, date and chipset. This information allows you to know what type of BIOS update that you need should you decide to update your system, and it also helps you figure out whether or not a new operating system is compatible with your BIOS. The BIOS Agent does not affect your system; it only scans it for information. The BIOS Agent Plus software will also determine what drivers you need to ensure that your system is optimally working. This program is compatible with the Windows operating system. There is a freeware version of this software, which means that you can use and share the program without paying a licensing fee.

ASUS Update Utility

The ASUS Update Utility is for ASUS motherboards and is compatible with the Windows operating system. This program scans your computer to determine whether your BIOS file needs to be updated, then it will search the Internet for the latest downloads. You can also save the BIOS file to your computer and view the information about your current BIOS version. You can decide whether you would like an update installed directly from a download file. This program uses a wizard format, which walks you through the process of downloading files and updating your BIOS. The ASUS Update Utility is on the support CD that came with your ASUS motherboard.

Express BIOS Update

Express BIOS Update is specifically for Intel motherboards. It allows you to update the BIOS on your motherboard with a newer version, and you can see the latest information about Intel BIOS updates on its website. Intel recommends that you only download a BIOS update if you are specifically having an issue with your motherboard. Before using the update, you should back up your BIOS settings and then restore those settings after you update your BIOS. This is a free utility that you can download from the Intel website.
