The P5ND2-SLI is a motherboard manufactured by ASUS. This motherboard is compatible with the following Intel Pentium Processors: Pentium Processor Extreme Edition, Pentium D, Pentium 4 and Celeron. The P5ND2-SLI is a fanless motherboard, designed with heat sinks for cooling.
Memory Capacity
The P5ND2-SLI has four slots for random access memory (RAM) modules. Each slot can hold a 2 GB module for a total of 8 GB of RAM.
Speeds
According to ASUS, the RAM speeds compatible with this motherboard are DDR2 667 or DDR2 533. These are also known as PC2-5300 and PC2-4200.
Other Memory Specifications
The memory for the P5ND2-SLI must have 240 pins. Pins are the gold leads located at the bottom of the DIMM (dual inline memory module) that connect to the motherboard slot. The RAM should be dual channel, non-ECC and unbuffered.
Considerations
Since the memory for the P5ND2-SLI is dual channel, DIMMs should be installed in matching pairs for best performance. Although this model will accept up to 8 GB of RAM, the amount that can be used depends upon the operating system the computer runs. Thirty-two bit operating systems, such as standard Windows OS, can only recognize about 3.5 GB of RAM. In order to utilize the full 8 GB of memory, a 64-bit OS is needed.
