Connect A Sata To A Gateway Gt5228 Motherboard

Hard drives and optical drives most commonly use SATA cables.

A number of computer components, most notably hard drives and optical drives, use the Serial ATA (SATA) interface on the Gateway GT5228. Installing these devices into a computer is another process altogether, but one feature all SATA devices have in common is the data cable that is used to connect to the motherboard. No matter what device you're adding to your desktop, it won't work unless you know properly connect it.

Instructions

1. Power-down the Gateway computer and unplug all cables from the unit. Hold the power button down for several seconds to drain any electricity still remaining inside the PC.

2. Twist out the two thumb screws securing the case cover on the rear left of the system. Grab the case cover by the handle and swing it outward to access the motherboard. Touch a bare metal surface inside the computer case to discharge static electricity from your body.

3. Most motherboards have at least two SATA ports.

Plug the long thin SATA cable into an SATA port on the motherboard. The ports are about the width of a quarter and are appropriately labeled. Look for them on the front portion of the motherboard. The cord should snap right into place with little effort on your part. If necessary, connect the other end of the cable to an SATA device inside your computer the same way.

4. Replace the case cover and thumb screws. Plug all cables back in.
