Configure A Tablet Pc In Windows Vista

Windows Vista has built-in features for tablet PC users

Tablet PCs have very different interface options than the standard mouse and keyboard combination. Interfaces that work well with a traditional computer don't work as well with touchscreen-enabled tablets, but with the proper configuration, tablet hardware makes many common tasks simpler and easier. Windows Vista includes built-in tools for working with tablet PC hardware, and maximizing the effectiveness of touchscreen features.

Instructions

1. Open the Control Panel and select "Tablet PC Settings." You may need to switch to "Classic View," or choose "Hardware and Sound" before making the selection.

2. Change the screen orientation in the "Display" tab. Tablet PCs often work effectively in a variety of orientations, and you may change the settings on the fly by making a selection in the "Orientation" drop-down box.

3. Click on the "Handwriting Recognition" tab and turn on the Personalized Recognizer. This option will make your handwriting more accurate for text entry, as the tool learns your particular writing style. The tool may not function correctly if multiple users work on the same account.

4. Click the "Calibrate" button in the "General" tab. Follow the instructions to calibrate the screen to more accurately to your taps, making the interface less prone to errors.

5. Close the Tablet PC Settings window and open the "Pen and Input Devices" icon in the Control Panel. Change the settings in the "Pen Options" tab to set the behavior of the tablet's pen or stylus. Different actions may be set to behave as a single-click, double-click, click and hold, right-click, and other common mouse pointer options.

6. Switch to the "Pointer Options" tab and place a check mark next to each visual marker you wish the system to use. Visual cues can help you recognize how the system responds to your tapped commands.
