Update Bios With Bin

Motherboard manufacturers release their BIOS updates in different file formats. Some use the BF or BAT file type, but the majority release their updates as binary (BIN) files. These files have to be applied using a firmware flashing utility, usually an additional download from the motherboard manufacturer. As each manufacturer releases its own utility and requires updates to be applied in its specific fashion, you will need to use the exact instructions provided by your motherboard manufacturer.

Instructions

1. Click "Start," type "msinfo32" into the Windows 7 search box and press "Enter." If you are using an older version of Windows, click the "Run" option in the "Start" menu, and then type "msinfo32" into the text entry field. Click "System Summary" to view your BIOS information. Write down any details so you can find your proper firmware updates.

2. Use your Web browser to navigate to your computer or motherboard manufacturer's website. Download the BIN file and any additional update necessities (such as flasher programs) for your make and model from the Downloads or Support section. If the files are archived in a RAR or ZIP format, unpack them to a folder.

3. Open the README file from the BIOS updates, or read the instructions on your manufacturer's website before proceeding. Many manufacturers will have you create a boot disk at this time using an included utility, while others will simply have you load the file onto a disk that can be accessed by your current BIOS version.

4. Follow the instructions from your manufacturer precisely, as a single error could render your motherboard useless and your system unable to boot. Reboot your machine once you have applied the updates. You will be able to see the new update version on the POST screen.
