Install A 7 1 Home Surround Sound System

A 7.1 surround sound system provides you with the ultimate surround sound experience. The setup of seven speakers and a subwoofer envelopes your ears with sounds from every angle, truly immersing you into a multimedia experience. And setting up your sound system doesn't require a specialist.

Instructions

1. Unpack your surround sound system and arrange the receiver and speakers. Place the receiver unit beneath your cable/satellite box, inside of your home entertainment center.

2. Place your "center" speaker on top of the components--DVD player, cable box etc.-- in your entertainment center. Center the speaker and align its front with the edge of the components beneath it. Being that the subwoofer is omnidirectional, you can place it anywhere in the room that provides you with the quality of bass you prefer. Common areas for placing the subwoofer are near the home entertainment center, in a corner or near a wall.

3. Place the "front left" speaker on your entertainment center's left and the "front right" speaker to its right, spacing them an equal distance from the center speaker. Align the forward position of the "front left" and "front right" speakers with the center speaker, then turn then inward about 30 degrees.

4. Place the "surround left" speaker on the left side of your seating area and the "surround right" to the right side, placing them an equal distance from the seating area. Align the forward position of both speakers with the seating areas and turn them inward.

5. Place the left rear speaker to the back left of your seating area and the right rear speaker to the right, positioning them slightly closer to each other than the left and right surround speakers.Turn the speakers in toward the seating area at about a 30-degree angle.

6. Slide your home entertainment center around at an angle so the components on the back of your home theater equipment are accessible. Use a video cable to connect your television to a "Video Out" port on the receiver. Connect your DVD player, cable receiver and any other components to the A/V outports on the back of the receiver.

7. Connect the speaker wire between your receiver and speakers, running the wire from each speaker to its individually labeled pair of ports on the back of the receiver. Match the negative sides of each piece of speaker wire to the negative ports (denoted by black or "-") and the positive sides to each positive port (denoted by red or "+").

8. Connect the speakers to the manufacturer-supplied mounts. The two front speakers should be mounted at about ear level when you're seated. The surround speakers should be a foot or two above that.
