Upgrade The Bios For An Etower 400i

The BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is a software stored in a ROM chip on the motherboard. It allows the computer to boot, diagnose itself to ensure all hardware and software are error-free and launch an operating system. Sometimes you need to upgrade the BIOS of your motherboard for your system to recognize a newly installed hardware or software. In addition, upgrading the BIOS of your eMachines eTower 400i can increase the performance and stability of the system. BIOS upgrades also provide options for timing other components in your eTower 400i, for example, overclocking the CPU and the graphics card.

Instructions

1. Start Windows OS and make a backup of your files before updating the BIOS.

2. Go to the "Start" menu. Click the "Run" option and enter "msinfo32.exe" to check the motherboard version in your eTower 400i. Not every eTower 400i uses the same brand or version of motherboard.

3. Visit the official eMachines website (see Resources) for the notes about the motherboard version in your computer.

4. Read the motherboard revised history or new version release notes on the eMachines website to determine if the BIOS upgrade is necessary for your eTower 400i.

Depending on your BIOS version, the upgrading files may be on the eMachines site for direct download. Otherwise, the site will redirect you to the BIOS manufacturer's site for the upgrade.

5. Download to your hard disk the new BIOS upgrade files. The files are: the upgrade data file, the upgrade tools file and a README file.

6. Unzip all the downloaded BIOS files and copy them onto a CD.

7. Restart your computer and insert the CD when Windows is running. Click the "Open folder to view files" option on the pop-up when prompted.

8. Follow the on-screen directions to install the new BIOS files as BIOS suppliers have different upgrading methods.

9. Turn off your eTower 400i and leave it for 30 seconds before restarting. Reboot your computer and check if everything works as expected.
