Disassemble The Asus G

If a hardware component in your ASUS G laptop fails, it can cost a lot of money to buy a new computer or pay a PC technician to replace the faulty component for you. Learning disassemble an ASUS G will enable you to replace defective components on your own without paying costly service fees. Eleven different product lines make up the ASUS G series -- ASUS G1 through ASUS G74 -- so disassembly steps may vary based on the model.

Instructions

1. Shut down the notebook and disconnect the AC adapter. Turn over the computer and slide the battery tabs to eject the battery from the computer.

2. Loosen the screws that secure the cover panel, found just above the battery. Set the panel aside. Lift up the RAM stick and pull the module out of its slot at a 45-degree angle.

3. Repeat the same steps for the other RAM stick. Loosen the screws that secure the hard drive cage to the PC. Slide the cage to the side and lift it out of the computer. Repeat the same steps for the second hard drive, if applicable.

4. Disconnect the antenna cables plugged in to the wireless local area network (WLAN) card. Remove the screws that secure the card to the computer, then lift the card from the ASUS G.

5. Remove the screw found to the right of the optical drive, then slide the drive out of the notebook. Turn over the computer and open the lid as far as possible.

6. Insert the tip of a plastic scribe, flathead screwdriver or pair of tweezers into the indents above the "Esc," "F5," "F9," "PrtSc" and "End" keys. Lift up the keyboard and turn it over. Set the keyboard on top of the palm rest.

7. Pull up the keyboard lock, then disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board. Return the keyboard lock to its original position. Disconnect the LED cable from the motherboard.

8. Close the monitor and turn over the notebook. Loosen the screws from the battery slot. Insert the tip of plastic scribe or other thin object into the hinge cover on the back of the computer, where the fan vents are located, to wedge the cover off the ASUS G.

9. Remove the screws located on the back of the ASUS G. Lift up the base, then remove the six screws from the metal hinge covers to loosen the LCD monitor. Don't attempt to remove the LCD monitor, as it's still connected to the monitor.

10. Remove the six screws securing the palm rest. Four screws can be found on the metal casing; the two remaining screws can be found on either side of the computer, where the hinge covers were.

11. Disconnect the switch board, speaker and touchpad cables from the motherboard. Insert the tip of a plastic scribe or other object underneath the palm rest to disassemble the ASUS G.

12. Disconnect the cables leading from the LCD monitor to the motherboard, and remove the monitor from the ASUS G.

13. Loosen the three screws that secure the notebook fan to the computer. Disconnect the fan cables, then lift the fan from the computer. If the notebook comes with two fans, follow the same directions to remove the second fan.

14. Loosen three screws, located on the top middle and far right of the motherboard. Disconnect the LAN cable, the Bluetooth cable, the SATA cable and the audio cable from the board. Remove the motherboard from the ASUS G.

15. Remove the four screws that secure the heat sink to the motherboard. Lift the heat sink from the motherboard to finish disassembling the ASUS G notebook.
