The power supply rests in the cable between your Nintendo Wii and the power outlet.
When playing with your Nintendo Wii, there is always a chance that the system will fail due to an electrical surge, a power outage, or a similar electrical disturbance. If your Nintendo Wii fails to turn on when electricity is restored, there is a good chance the power supply (the large brick-like object in the power cable between your Nintendo Wii and your electrical outlet, also known as the "Wii AC Adapter") may need to be reset in order for it to function again.
Instructions
1. Unplug the Nintendo Wii power supply from both the electrical outlet and the back of the Nintendo Wii, so that it is completely disconnected from both the wall and the system. Make sure to unplug anything else connected to the system such as LAN adapters, Nintendo GameCube controllers and keyboards.
2. Wait for two minutes or longer with the power supply completely unplugged. This will allow the AC adapter to reset itself. As you wait for the power supply to reset, make sure to check the model number to make sure it is a licensed Nintendo Wii AC adapter. If it is an official Nintendo product, the word "Wii" and the number "RVL-002 (USA)" will be molded into the plastic. Unlicensed power supplies may not be completely compatible with your Nintendo Wii.
3. Look over the power supply for any sort of physical damage. Smell the power supply to check for a burnt odor. Things like frayed wiring, fried electrical parts or cracked housing can make the AC adapter defective. If you find physical damage, do not plug it back in. Obtain a new power supply straight from Nintendo.
4. Check the wall outlet and the back of the Nintendo Wii for damage or burns. After waiting the full two minutes, plug the power supply back into the Nintendo Wii first, then plug it straight into the wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip or a surge protector.
5. Turn on the Nintendo Wii. If the power light comes on and remains lit, the power supply reset has been successful. If the power light continues to shut off intermittently, or does not turn on at all, contact Nintendo directly for repair or replacement options.
