Remove the Battery in an Asus P5W DH Deluxe
The Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard contains an on-board CMOS battery that regulates the Real Time Clock (RTC) while the computer is not running. If you need to remove the CMOS battery in your Asus motherboard to replace it or to reset the RTC, you must open up your computer. Removing the on-board battery is relatively simple and straightforward, even if you are unfamiliar with computer hardware. As always, when working with delicate electronics beware of electrostatic discharge and take proper precautions.
Instructions
1. Disconnect all cables from your computer and set it on your workspace, lying on its right side.
2. Twist the case screws counterclockwise and remove them. The case screws are located on the rear portion of the left side. These screws secure the side panel to the case.
3. Locate the CMOS battery in the Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard. You can find the battery between the graphics card slot and the PCI slots in the bottom left corner of the motherboard.
4. Insert a thin flathead screwdriver beneath the battery and lift it out. Make note of which side, positive or negative, is facing upward before you remove it.
5. Clear the RTC RAM in the CMOS by moving the jumper cap from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for approximately 10 seconds, while the CMOS battery is not in the motherboard. The jumper is located in the bottom right portion of the P5W DH Deluxe motherboard and looks like three wire pins protruding upward. Note that this is optional.
6. Reinstall the CMOS battery (correct side up) by placing it in the battery recess and pressing down gently. If your CMOS is dead, replace the CMOS battery with a working battery.
7. Reconnect the computer. Hold down the "Del" key while you boot the system up, if you cleared the RTC RAM, to enter into the BIOS setup screen. Make changes as needed.
