Wire A Front Audio Panel

One of the seemingly complicated steps in the somewhat complicated process of building a computer is wiring the front panel audio to the motherboard. Nearly every computer case comes with front panel audio connections, usually a microphone and headphone jack, both of which are connected to the motherboard through a single, wired connection. Get yourself one step closer to finishing your new computer by wiring the front panel audio to the motherboard.

Instructions

1. Open your computer case and set it in a spot where you can easily access the entire motherboard. Pull out the case front panel connections (these should be rubber-banded or twist-tied together near the front of the case) and locate the wire labeled "Front Audio."

2. Find the motherboard header labeled "Front Audio." The header will be two rows and 5 pins wide with one of the pins missing from the bottom row. It will usually be located on the bottom-left side of the motherboard. If you are using a PCI sound card instead of the motherboard's built-in audio, or if you motherboard doesn't have built-in audio, use the Front Audio header on the sound card instead.

3. Line up the pins with the pin holes in the Front Audio header and insert them inside the holes firmly. Once they are firmly inserted you have successfully wired your Front Panel Audio to the motherboard.
