Compare AMD CPU Speed to an Intel Pentium
The CPU (short for "Central Processing Unit") is arguably the most important aspect of your computer. This tiny device is what allows your computer to execute commands, one of which is loading your computer's operating system into memory. If you're in the market for a new CPU for your machine, there are a few important factors to consider. You need to know what you're looking for if you want to compare the speeds of AMD and Intel processors.
Instructions
1. Pull up the technical specifications page for two CPUs, one AMD and one Intel Pentium, in your computer's web browser. You can search for CPUs by model number on the AMD and Intel websites. You can pull them up in two different browser windows, or if your web browser supports tabbed browsing, use two different tabs. The only thing that matters is that you can quickly refer back and forth between the two.
2. Look at how many "cores" are in the CPU. A single core processor has one processor, while dual core processors have two and quad core processors have four.
3. Look at the number that is measured in gigahertz (GHz) for each CPU. This is the CPU's speed. The higher the number, the faster the processor. However, take the cores into consideration. A 2.0GHz AMD single core processor will be faster than a 1.5GHz Intel Pentium single core processor. However, a 1.5GHz quad-core Intel Pentium CPU is actually faster than a 2.0GHz single core AMD processor, as the quad-core processor will have four processors all running at a speed of 1.5GHz.
