Connect 2 Wire System Speakers & 4 Pin Motherboard Socket

Most computer cases come with built-in speakers, which serve as audio diagnostic tools during the computer's boot up stage. If some hardware components -- memory, for example -- fail to initialize, the speakers produce a certain beep pattern that allows you to identify the problem. These speakers must be connected to a special motherboard socket to function correctly. Typically, the socket has four pins while the speaker connector has either two or four pins.

Instructions

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Remove the side panel of the computer case.

3. Lay the computer on its side.

4. Locate the system connector cluster located in the bottom right corner of the motherboard. This cluster includes at least five different sockets such as the power switch, reset, the case speaker, power and hard drive LEDs (light-emitting diodes). The case (system) four-pin socket is typically labeled as "SPEAKER" or "SPKR."

5. Insert gently the two-pin connector of the speaker cable, attaching it to the first and fourth pins of the motherboard speaker socket.

6. Close the computer case.
