Control A Sony Home Theater Using An Ipad

The Media Remote app has the same buttons as your Sony remote.

Sony has released three free apps on the iPad for controlling a Sony Home Theater. The Media Remote app is a general purpose app for controlling audio and video on the Home Theater and other Sony products. The Network Audio Remote is limited to music and the TV SlideView app is designed for movies and TV shows. While each has different features, they all give you control over your Home Theater and other Sony devices connected to your home network. These apps also work with an iPhone and iPod Touch.

Media Remote

Sony's Media Remote for iPhone app works with Blu-ray Disc players, Blu-ray Disc Home Theater Systems, Streaming Player/Network Media Players, AV Receivers, Bravia, Sony Internet TVs and the Sony Vaio L. The app includes a simple remote for navigating across a TV screen, as well as a full remote that includes the same buttons on a Sony remote control. Other features include a QWERTY touchscreen keyboard, a game pad and a now-playing bar that shows information about the disc or show you are watching.

Network Audio Remote

The Sony Network Audio Remote app is designed specifically for controlling music. It works with Sony Home Theaters as well as other Sony Homeshare audio products like network speakers, AV Receivers, Network Media Players, Network Audio System/Servers and Micro Hi-Fi Component Systems. You can control each device independently and have them play different audio tracks or synchronize them all in "Party Streaming" mode. You can access music on your computer drive or stream music live from the Internet.

TV SlideView

Sony's TV Slideview app works with Sony Home Theaters as well as Sony Blu-ray players, BRAVIA, Sony Internet TV and similar network-connected Sony video devices. Like the Media Remote app, TV Slideview has a full remote control and keyboard, as well as a cursor for browsing on your TV. Using this app, you can browse different TV programs, recorded shows and services like YouTube and Netflix. The app connects with social media apps on your iPad so you can share what you're watching with your friends.

Using the Sony Home Theater and iPad Apps

Before trying to use a Sony remote app on the iPad, your Sony Home Theater must be connected to the same network as the iPad. The iPad can only access a home network using Wi-Fi, but you can connect the Home Theater to any LAN port on the Wi-Fi router using an Ethernet cable. To download the apps, register your products and access Internet features, you need a high-speed Internet connection. When you launch the app for the first time, make sure the Home Theater is also on. You will be asked to register your Home Theater and other accessible Sony products before you can use the app.
