Upgrade The Processor In A Zv 5000 Laptop

Replace your HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop's processor if you are having problems with it.

Your laptop's processor is the main chip on your motherboard that allows your computer's software to operate. In basic terms, it is the brain of your computer. Upgrading your HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop's processor can greatly enhance its overall performance. The zv5000 comes installed with a 2.4 GHz processor, and is compatible with most Intel Pentium 4 chips. Replacing your processor means completely dismantling your laptop.

Instructions

1. Power down the laptop using its current operating system. Close the display panel, and then disconnect all cables from the laptop. Place the laptop face down with the front edge facing toward you. Remove the battery pack from its compartment in the lower left corner of the laptop's bottom casing.

2. Remove the Phillips-head screw that secures memory compartment's plastic cover to the center of the laptop. Remove the cover from the laptop.

3. Remove the 11 Phillips-head screws securing the cooling fan's compartment cover to the upper right corner of the laptop. Remove the cover.

4. Remove the four spring-loaded Phillips-head screws from the cooling fan assembly. Use flat-head screwdriver to turn the processor locking screw in the counterclockwise direction to disengage the processor from its motherboard socket. This must be done before removing the CPU cooling fan. Remove the cooling fan assembly from its compartment to reveal the processor chip.

5. Lift straight up on the processor's locking lever until it is in the upright position. Lift the processor out of its socket, and set it aside.

6. Repeat this procedure in reverse to install the new processor.
