Install An Ase380ud421a Video Card For An Acer Aspire

The Acer Aspire uses the ASE380-UD421A RAM memory and comes with an integrated video card, but when it begins to fail, or when you need a faster video card to play games or watch videos, you can upgrade it with a card like the GeForce GTS 450 or the Radeon HD 6800. This type of video card has 1024 MB of video memory, allowing for more vibrant colors and smoother running animation and video. Purchase a quality video card at a local computer accessory store or online at websites like NewEgg.com or Amazon.

Instructions

1. Choose a quality graphics PCI slot card. Check your manual to see what your software specifications are. Compare these to the minimum software requirements needed by the video card.

2. Disconnect the monitor from the computer and unplug the computer from the power outlet. Remove all the cables from the back of the computer. Turn the computer so the back is facing you. Unfasten the screws from the right panel on the back of the computer with a Phillips screwdriver.

3. Slide the side panel toward you until it comes off. Set the panel aside. Lay the computer down so you can see the inside motherboard and devices. Locate the PCI slots in the middle of the computer.

4. Remove the screw that holds the face plate next to an empty PCI expansion slot. Push out the face plate so there is an empty slot on the back plate of the computer. Align the card pins with the slot and insert the card. Push down firmly along the entire edge to make sure there is a strong connection between the pins and the slot. Fasten in place with the screw you removed with the face plate. The card connections should now fill the empty slot.

5. Replace the side panel and refasten the screws. Turn the computer right side up and turn it around so the front faces you. Reconnect the monitor, keyboard and mouse cables. Connect the power cable and connect to the power outlet.

6. Turn on the computer and insert the CD/DVD that came with the video card. Wait for the CD driver installation wizard to start and follow any on screen prompts filling in important registration information when required. Click "Finish" when the program finalizes.

7. Restart the computer if prompted to do so and configure the new video card settings the way you want by clicking on "Start," "Control Panel" and "Appearance and Personalization." Click on the "Settings" tab in the new window that appears and choose the resolution and other properties you want. Click "Apply" and "OK" to make the changes go into effect.
